Mark Abdelmalek, MD, is a highly-regarded dermatologist, skin cancer surgeon, and ABC News reporter. As a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, Dr. Abdelmalek specializes in the precise surgical removal of skin cancer with expert reconstruction. Dr. Abdelmalek’s clinical interests are caring for high-risk skin cancer patients and comprehensive skin care for organ transplant patients.
Dr. Mark spent more than a decade in academic medicine culminating as the Interim Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Drexel University. While at Drexel he partnered with premier academic faculty to train a generation of excellent dermatologists and conduct clinical research.
Dr. Abdelmalek is a graduate of Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency at Drexel University where he also served as Chief Dermatology Resident. After residency, he received additional surgical and laser training in an American College of Mohs Surgery Fellowship in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Abdelmalek is also an award-winning medical and investigative journalist at ABC News covering a wide-range of important stories of our time. In 2016, Dr. Abdelmalek received an Alfred I. duPont Columbia Award, one of the most prestigious honors in journalism and regarded as the equivalent of the Pulitzer Prizes for broadcast news. He has held numerous leadership positions in the dermatology community including past-President of the Philadelphia Dermatological Society and Overall Chairperson for the Atlantic Derm Conference. He has received numerous awards and honors including being selected by his peers to receive a prestigious ‘Founders Award’ for “devoting extraordinary time and talent as a teacher and clinician.” Dr. Mark has also been recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly and Philadelphia Magazine.
Dr. Abdelmalek is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
